Radial Insert Ball Bearings and Housing Units

Black Series

The new radial insert ball bearing and housing units FAG Black Series from Schaeffler give easy mounting, smooth running and high reliability and thus allow particularly economical bearing arrangements. The dimensions of the FAG housings, made from flake graphite cast iron and with a primer paint coating, conform to JIS B 1559. These single piece cast housings can support moderate to high radial and axial loads. The radial insert ball bearings have basic protection against corrosion due to the Durotect BS coating. The bearing units are particularly suitable for applications with moderate to high loads.

FAG CONCEPT8 provides Constant Lubrication

At the Visonta open pit mine, coal is transported to the power plant via kilometer-long belt conveyors. Smoothly operating belt conveyors are thereby decisive in ensuring a trouble-free process. In order to ensure this process, optimum lubrication – despite contamination and severe vibrations – is necessary. Furthermore, the lubrication points are often difficult to access or are very isolated. The FAG CONCEPT8 lubrication system filled with high quality Schaeffler lubricants from the Arcanol range was chosen for this application.

Greater Reliability for Roller Presses

The customer’s concentrator plant is amongst the first ones in South America that uses roller presses. But at the beginning of operation at the customer’s plant experienced some problems: At around 2 500 to 5 000 hours, the performance of the large size bearings in particular was well below the expected operating life of 8000 up to 12 000 hours, and they were severely damaged at the end of the operating period. Using on the Global Technology Network Schaeffler created a cost-effective solution – consisting of lubrication and seal recommendations as well as reconditioning – which increases the bearing life for this specific application.

Within the framework of the Global Technology Network several Schaeffler specialists worked together and developed specially for this application a device that can generate sufficient electric power required for such large components – the FAG Heater5000.

Sunstate Cement Ltd. is one of Australia’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of high quality cement products to commercial businesses throughout Queensland and Northern New South Wales. With a capacity to produce over 1.5 million tonnes of cement per year, Sunstate Cement Ltd. has a long history as a major contributor to Queensland’s largest and most impressive infrastructure projects for over 25 years. Challenge for Schaeffler: Sunstate Cement Ltd. had performed visual inspection of the Tube Mill No1 trunnion drive end bearing. During this inspection they found the bearing was in a reasonable condition after 28 years of service and decided to extend the service life by rotating the outer ring by 180°, what is a common practice for this type of application.

The customer is an international manufacturer of cement, ready-mix concrete, and gravel and is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction materials. Challenge for Schaeffler: High-pressure grinding roller mills are used to grind raw materials. Damage to the bearings of grinding rollers results in disruptions to the production process. In order to minimize this risk, Schaeffler was commissioned to conduct vibration measurements as part of a pilot project supported by the machine manufacturer (OEM).

Reworking and Reconditioning of Support Rollers for the Steel Industry

The customer is a medium-sized French steel manufacturer who has specialised in the production of cold-rolled strip steel. The range of products comprises surface- finished strip steel as well as quenched and drawn steels. The company belongs to an internationally operating steel group from Germany. Challenge for Schaeffler: The outside diameters of the support rollers produce the surface of the finished strip material. Six to eight support rollers form a cluster. The surfaces of the support rollers and the minimal variation of their diameters are, therefore, decisive for zero-defect quality and the thickness tolerance of the finished product.
