The apprenticeship Program is designed to develop skilled trade workers through state and federally certified programs that provide a combination of classroom and hands-on training. We are looking for candidates who are ambitious, creative and enthusiastic about their own growth to join this skilled trades training program. Our goal is to develop highly skilled workers, through on-the-job training, that support our growing business needs and that understand the advanced technology of our high-speed production facilities.
The Schaeffler Fort Mill Apprenticeship Program began from a partnership between Schaeffler and York Technical College in 2014. The first group of apprentices were in Tool and Die Maker course, and since then we have worked to start seven different apprentice groups in three different courses: Tool & Die Maker, Skilled Setup Operator and Industrial Maintenance.
Partnership School: York Technical College
Two years (~ 4,000 hours). During the First school semester, the apprentice spends 100% of work hours at the school. Beginning with school semester two through graduation, the apprentice spends ~ half of their work time in theoretical and practical classes in partnership with York Technical College and other half of their time at the Schaeffler plant to learn from On-the-job Training with their Mentors.
After graduation from Phase 1, the apprentice is required to perform 1.5 years (~ 3,000 hours) On-the-Job training at Schaeffler facilities. Upon completion of Phase 2, the apprentice will receive their Journeyman Certification from the United States Department of Labor.
The apprentice agrees to work at Schaeffler for a minimum of 2 years to pay back Schaeffler for paying all of the school costs.
Tool & Die (0586*)
Prepares the student for career opportunities in computer integrated manufacturing environments as machinist, tool & die makers, manufacturing process technicians, quality control technicians, CNC programmers, CNC setup and operation technician. They must also be effective communicators, capable of interpreting blueprints, and using mathematics. Graduates in Machine Tool Technology are qualified for entry-level jobs in different positions due of the broad background offered by the curriculum.
Industrial Maintenance (1037*)
Operations depend heavily upon well-trained personnel to keep machinery and equipment in operating condition to support production. Employees involved in maintenance, repairs, and improvement of industrial operations must be well versed in such areas as safety, electricity, automation, Programmable Logic and Automation Controllers (PLCs and PACs), welding, power transfer, pneumatics, hydraulics, and use of hand and bench tools. They must also be capable of effective communications, interpretation of blueprints, and use of mathematics. Graduates in Industrial Maintenance Technician are qualified for entry-level jobs in industrial maintenance because of the broad background offered by the curriculum.
Skilled Setup Operator (0958*)
The program prepares the student for career opportunities in computer integrated manufacturing environments as machinist operator, manufacturing process technicians, CNC setup and operation technician. They are also capable to recognize small performance issues in a variety of areas, such as: safety, electricity, automation, power transfer, pneumatics, and hydraulics. They must also be effective communicators, capable of interpreting blueprints, and using mathematics. Graduates in Machine Tool Technology are qualified for entry-level jobs in manufacturing operation and setup positions because of the broad background offered by the curriculum.
- Tool and Die (0586*), Industrial Maintenance (1037*) are 7,000 hours.
- Skilled Setup Operator (0958*) is 6,000 hours
The regular shift during Phase 1 is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. During Phase 2, the regular shift while at the plant is Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm.
